Annual General Meeting - Hook: Take a Closer Look

Date: Saturday, 21st September 2019
Venue: Hook Life Church, Elms Road, Hook, RG27 9DX

At first sight Hook, situated in North-East Hampshire, is a new and expanding village, however, dig under the surface and its history goes back to Roman times and it has one of the oldest inns in Hampshire. In addition, Hook Local History Group's recent heritage Lottery funded work includes many dendrochronogical reports which provide accurate dating of the oldest properties. The Group now has a good archive which makes for a fascinating day out learning and sharing some of Hook's history that it just below the surface - if you know where to look!


The programme was organised in conjunction with the Hook Local History Group:

  • 10.15 Roman Hook - Video/talk, Paul Cluett and Dr Simon Maslin
  • 11.00 Historic Buildings in Hook - Video/talk, Dr Nick Maslin
  • 11.35 Surprising Facts about Hook, Paul Cluett
  • 12.00 Local HIstory Section AGM
  • 12.30 - 13.45 Lunch:
  • 13.45 - 16.00 Guided walk around Hook, tea - Commerce - Talk, Dr Nick Maslin.
  • 16.00 - 16.30 Early Transport video, & Questions, Paul Cluett and Dr Nick Maslin
The cost for attending will be 10.00 for members and 15.00 for non-members. Morning coffee and tea are included in the price. Please download the booking form and return to the address given along with your cheque; your booking should arrive no later than 16th Septemer 2019.
Transport: If you would like a lift for all or part of the way to Hook please let us know and we will do our best to find someone who is able to assist. Similarly, if you can offer a lift please let us know. Details of the location of Hook Life Church, parking facilities and options for lunch will be sent to those attending.
