LOCAL  HISTORY  SECTION  FIELD  VISIT – 24 OCTOBER

A two-centre visit exploring the history of the parishes of Micheldever and East Stratton, from Hyde Abbey to the Baring dynasty, curated by Barry Shurlock, with talks and a guided tour by Patrick Craze.

9.30-10.00 arrival. Car parking in the Lord Rank Playing Field, SO21 3DJ (SU518 393) proceeding 200m west to the Northbrook Hall in Duke Street.

10.00 ‘Micheldever and East Stratton: A Thousand years of Estate Ownership’

11.30 ‘Micheldever Station in WW2: Strategic Oil Depot & PoW Camps’

12:15-1300 Tour of Micheldever Church (rotunda by George Dance)

13:00 to 14:30    L U N C H

Proceed to East Stratton Village hall, SO21 3DU – parking on site.

14:30 Guided tour – the Church (1888 by Thomas Jackson) through Stratton Park and East Stratton, from the 17th century to Baring’s New Model Village.

16:00-16:30       Tea in the Village hall
