25th March SATURDAY

 

Landscape Section, a morning outing (10 am - 1.00 pm) to follow up Dr Katy Whitaker's lecture on 'Sarsen Stones'. There will be a visit to West Woods, near Marlborough, to see sarsen stones in situ.

HFC&AS, OGS Crawford Lecture by Dr Mike Allen: 'Cerne Abbas – Playing with Giant Ideas: new evidence from excavations at the Cerne Abbas Giant, Dorset.'

Archaeology Section, The David Johnston Memorial Lecture to be given by Paul Cheetham and Miles Russell (Bournemouth University)

Iron Age life at Winterborne Kingston: what the people are telling us.

20th May SATURDAY Historic Buildings Section, visit to Holy Trinity Church, Millbrook, Southampton,at 2.00pm, and a talk about Southampton’s Victorian churches by Frank Green.

15th June THURSDAY

Archaeology Section, WARG dig at IBM Hursley: there is a free, exclusive evening viewing of the third and final year of WARG's excavations in the grounds of Hursley Park on Thursday 15th June 2023 at 6pm.

24th June SATURDAY Local History Section, Charlotte Mary Yonge Day; 10.00-17.00.
29th June THURSDAY

Archaeology Section, morning visit, 11.00 am, to Winterborne Kingston excavations: following this year’s David Johnston Memorial Lecture, given by Paul Cheetham, Bournemouth University are continuing their exploration of the Durotriges (and others) landscape in Dorset.

20th July THURSDAY

Archaeology Section, evening visit, 6pm, to PCA excavations at New Alresford, Hampshire: PCA are excavating a Bronze Age and Anglo-Saxon burial site in advance of development. HFC members are invited along to see the results and talk to the archaeologists. 

 

31st August THURSDAY

Archaeology Section, evening visit, 6pm, to PCA ‘Central Winchester Regeneration’ excavations.

9th September SATURDAY

Landscape and Local HIstory Sections, visit to Stokes Bay with introductory talks and a guided walk around the area.

Local History Section, AGM and ‘Annual Lecture' to be given by Professor Michael Hicks: 'Hampshire’s Greatest Landowners'.

Archaeology Section, Conference and AGM: “What we’ve done and what we’ve found” highlighting the latest sites and finds from Hampshire over the last few years.
